Lib Dem Claygate Councillors Jimmy Cartwright, Michael Courtney, and Steve Wells have been reviewing how Elmbridge Borough Council's long term development and infrastructure plans will impact Claygate village, and have been consulting with residents to hear their views.

Cllr Michael Courtney said, "We are indebted to Anthony Sheppard, chair of the Parish Council, for arranging and chairing the residents meeting and to Lesley Underwood, Planning Officer, from the Council who came to explain the proposals. It is vital that we in Claygate consider this Plan and its potentially critical implications for our precious village.

Cllr Steve Wells added "Two distinct but related concerns have been expressed to us. First, there is currently insufficient infrastructure for the existing Claygate population - particularly school and health provision. Second, there is insufficient land available in Claygate for the new houses/flats required by the Plan.

Cllr Jimmy Cartwright said, "While we Councillors will make the strongest of representations to the Council, we urge residents to also make their views known to Town Planning on this crucial matter."
