Lib Dems Launch Search For Worst Pothole In Elmbridge

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 17th Jun 2008

Local Liberal Democrats have launched a search for the worst pothole across Elmbridge.

Anthony Sheppard, Lib Dem County Council Spokesman for Hinchley Wood, Claygate and Oxshott, said:

"It's not surprising we see so many 4x4s on Surrey's roads - given the County Council's approach to maintenance, people are going to need them!

"The Conservative administration have announced a programme of repairs but at a lower funding level than last year's budget - partly resourced from cuts to road safety programmes. There are signs that the Highways Department. may not be resourced to manage the work properly.

"There are still numerous examples of bad potholes and poor road maintenance across the area, and we want fellow residents to help us put pressure on Surrey County Council to make our roads more acceptable in a modern, developed country.

"Liberal Democrats call on Surrey County Council to fund and resource highway maintenance properly."
